Paintings by Lockwood Dennis
The creation of painted works remained a constant endeavor of Lockwood Dennis throughout his 45 year career as an artist. While this medium always presented a great challenge, it was the most personally rewarding for him, and in turn may reveal the most about him as a person. Influence in the early years came from the works of impressionists such as Cezanne and Matisse, and later evolved into a graphical style influenced by the simplified imagery developed from his woodblock prints. In a number of cases, the subject and image for the paintings and the prints are shared in common.
