Lockwood Dennis (1937 - 2012)
Over a 45 year career, artist Lockwood (Woody) Dennis created a large portfolio of paintings and prints depicting natural and industrial scenes from the Northwest, California, Colorado, Africa, and Japan. Inspired by the shapely design of motor vehicles from his youth in the 1930's and 40's, Lockwood often placed these vehicles as characters in nostalgic and historic scenes from bygone years. Lockwood strove to express the beauty and humor that could be found in the form and function of the industrial world that surrounds our everyday lives. His inspirations came from painters such as Matisse and Cezanne, German expressionist print makers such as Lyonel Feininger, the comic art of Krazy Kat creator George Herriman, and French and Japanese cinema, among many others. More information about Lockwood Dennis can be found on the page About the Artist.
